Slumming

Jesus' dying on the cross was not only God at his most useless, it was worse; it was nothing but an act of divine slumming.

Belligerate

The candidate is such a disappointment -- and this from someone who never liked him all that much anyways. But to watch him try to out belligerate his opponent is really sickening.

Types of Ignorance

In Mexico I learned there was no more use trying to explain certain things to Indians than to explain Kant to a cat. One’s efforts would be met with a kind of mental deafness or, if heard, with occasional hostility or sometimes with that existential irony that knocks you on your butt.
On returning to the US, I thought I would be returning to burgertum... to people who kept religion within reasonable bounds and appreciated the virtues of science. Alas, it was not that way unfortunately not that way. I have come to realize that Murkans -- the dumbest of our lot -- are like Indians, only worse because they utterly lack the Indian's sense of irony in place of which they have only jingoism and hate. .
