People misunderstand the genius of Calvinism. We all know that God in his infinite power and wisdom has ordained some people to be filthy rich and others to be the filthy poor. There is no reason for this ordination. As a rich person, my wealth is certainly not my fault. I have done nothing to deserve it. It was all God's doing for reasons He alone knoweth. As for the filthy beggar he is equally powerless to alter his condition because God wants him to be poor, so who am I to contravene the Manifest Will of the Almighty. All I know is that i could just as equally have been made poor as rich and therefore the existence of poor people serve to remind of my precarious but good fortune. In fact the more poor people there are, the greater i am led with ever increasing humility to acknowledge my very special blessedness. Christian Liberty liberates us from responsibility and guilt and confirms us in luxurious humility. Praise be God and his Unfortunate Son, Jesus.
